Why Remote Workers Are Choosing Las Vegas Over Other Sun Belt Cities

Why Remote Workers Are Choosing Las Vegas Over Other Sun Belt Cities

Remote Workers Are Choosing Las Vegas: Here's Why the Numbers Make Sense

The remote work wave that started in 2020 is now five years old, and the cities that accumulated the biggest gains from it are becoming clearer. Las Vegas has quietly built a strong case for remote workers from California, Washington, and other high-cost markets, and it's not just about sunshine. The financial math, the community infrastructure, and the lifestyle profile combine in a way that's hard to ignore for households that can work from anywhere.

The Abella Team at eXp Realty Las Vegas works with a lot of remote workers who discovered Las Vegas when they started running the numbers on what location independence actually enables. Here's what they tend to find.

The Tax Picture for Remote Workers

For a remote worker, location is a direct financial variable in a way it isn't for people tied to an employer's office. Moving from California to Nevada eliminates state income tax entirely, which for a household earning $150,000 to $250,000 per year represents $10,000 to $20,000 or more in annual savings. Those savings don't require any change to your job, your income, or your career trajectory. They are simply a function of where you file your taxes.

Nevada has no state income tax, codified in the state constitution. That's not a policy that shifts with an election. For remote workers who are building out a long-term financial picture, that stability matters. The combination of lower housing costs, no state income tax, and Nevada's landlord-friendly legal environment also makes Las Vegas one of the stronger markets for remote workers who want to own investment property alongside their primary residence.

The Housing Reality for Remote Workers

The Las Vegas Valley median home price in June 2026 runs approximately $490,000, with mortgage rates around 6.53 percent. For a remote worker coming from the Bay Area or Los Angeles, where that same money buys significantly less, the comparison is often striking. A three-bedroom single-story home in Henderson or West Henderson can be purchased in the $480,000 to $600,000 range, in a community with maintained common areas, parks, and access to good schools.

The inventory picture in 2026 also favors buyers. More than 7,000 single-family homes were listed across the valley as of early 2026, and homes are sitting longer, giving remote workers the time to visit, assess neighborhoods properly, and make decisions without the panic of a frenzied market. Inbound search traffic from San Jose to Las Vegas nearly tripled year over year in early 2026, signaling that Silicon Valley workers are paying attention.

The Community Infrastructure

Las Vegas has developed a genuine remote work and tech community. Monthly meetups, networking events, and professional groups connect remote workers who might otherwise feel isolated. Las Vegas's mix of people who came from somewhere else creates an openness to newcomers that's harder to find in established cities where social circles are decades old. Facebook groups like "Las Vegas Remote Workers" and "Vegas Tech Community" facilitate professional connections.

The city's economy is also diversifying. Healthcare, logistics, technology, and construction are all growing sectors alongside the traditional hospitality base. That matters less for pure remote workers whose income is tied to an employer elsewhere, but it matters significantly for entrepreneurs, consultants, and freelancers who serve local clients in addition to their remote work.

Where Remote Workers Are Landing

Henderson and Summerlin consistently top the list for remote workers with families who prioritize schools and community feel. Skye Canyon draws outdoor-oriented remote workers who want trail access and a slightly more relaxed pace. Southern Highlands appeals to remote workers who travel frequently and want easy access to the airport and I-15 for California visits.

For remote workers who are single or couples without school-age children, areas like Downtown Summerlin, the southwest valley, and parts of Henderson closer to the Strip offer more lifestyle variety and walkable dining options.
